One of the reasons that people use against using double jogging strollers, or any jogging stroller for that matter, is safety. After all, they would not want their precious children to risk injury by riding something that can be potentially harmful to them.
The truth is that the concern is not fully unfounded. There are really double jogging strollers that are not able to provide the adequate safety measures that would help in ensuring that your children are safe whenever you take them with you. This is especially true for strollers that are of the run of the mill variety.
This means that the key to getting a safe double jogging stroller and a safety jogging experience is not just up to the manufacturers of the strollers, but also with you, the parents, of the children. This is because you should be vigilant about the safety features of the double jogging strollers that you select so that you would be able to ensure their safety for your children.
Here are some of the safety checks that you should do for a double jogging stroller:
Enhanced Suspension systems:
You should try to find a double jogging stroller that has an enhanced suspension system to ensure that your children would not suffer from a very bumpy ride. These bumpy rides can potentially be harmful to their backs and buttocks especially if you are prone to passing through some rough terrains.
An enhanced suspension system would help in minimizing the feel of the bumps and roughness of your routes. They would usually do this in conjunction with wheels and tires that are tougher than the usual plastic ones and tough, durable frames that can handle such bumps.
Straps and Harnesses:
You should check if the double jogging stroller has individual harnesses for each seat. This is because there are some models (usually the older or cheaper ones) that would only have one large seatbelt for both of the seats in the side by side configuration.
Check to see if these safety harnesses are tough or durable enough to restrain your children even if you would have to make sudden stopping movements while you are jogging.
Another check that you should do is for the comfort level of the children that you strap on to the harness. There are some that are too tight or are made of material that can be quite rough which could chafe the skin of your kids.
Stability and Balance:
Remember that the double jogging stroller have two seats and that would mean it would be heavier when you place two children in it. This could lead to complications if the double jogging stroller that your purchased is not configured to be stable and balanced when it is fully loaded.
You should get one that is not prone to tipping over when the load is increased to ensure the safety of your children.
Fortunately for parents, most of the good-quality jogging strollers that are available in the market are already made with these safety features in mind. However, this does not mean that you should be lax when you are doing these tests.
